The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art closes after this weekend to prepare for its move to a new building at Virginia Wesleyan University.

The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art will close its doors after this weekend to relocate to Virginia Wesleyan University’s campus.

But it's bidding adieu with plenty of fanfare.

On Saturday, the “Farewell To Parks Avenue” celebration begins at 6 p.m. with a party, food, music and a silent auction inside MOCA's vault.

The museum has kept years of the Boardwalk Art Show's best-in-show pieces and works from selected artists; this will be the first time the vault is open to the public. Creative dress is encouraged for the night.

On Sunday, the museum will host a free community day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring artist demonstrations, talks with artists and exhibition-inspired activities.

The move to Virginia Wesleyan will be to a new building that expands MOCA's education and exhibition space by 20%. The museum is expected to open in April, according to its website.

Tickets for Saturday night are $25 for museum members; $50 for non-members. Visit virginiamoca.org for more information.
