Volunteers Make WHRO Possible

Hundreds of people put the “public” in public media by volunteering their time, talent, and energy to WHRO. We are always looking for friendly, enthusiastic, and dependable people to assist in a variety of areas. Volunteers should have access to email to receive updates and information about upcoming opportunities.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Tabling at community events in the region, such as the Virginia Children’s Festival, PrideFest, and other markets and fairs throughout the year
  • Helping with check-in/registration at various station events, including program screenings and other special gatherings
  • Assisting with WHRO education events, including the Great Computer Challenge, PBS Kids Writers Contest Celebration, and the TowneBank Spelling Bee
  • Reading for The WHRO Voice, a streaming radio service for individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have other conditions preventing them from reading standard printed material
  • Supporting during an FM pledge drive, whether answering phones in pledge central or even lending your voice on-air to encourage membership support
  • Helping the membership team with front desk reception coverage, mailings, data entry, and thank you calls
  • Becoming a station ambassador and leading station tours for special guests and group visits
