Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has rated the Hampton VA four out of five stars in its latest survey of facilities around the nation.
"These ratings highlight the excellent care Hampton VA Health Care System provides,”
said Michael W. Harper, interim executive director of Hampton VA Healthcare System in a statement.
Providers at the local VA have started holding daily meetings, called huddles, to assess at-risk veterans in the Community Living Center and created a structure to standardize the handoff of patients between shifts. The VA also established a Quality Assurance Performance Initiative Committee, according to a VA release.
“Our job is to continue raising the bar for customer service and convenience throughout the department, so Hampton VA Health Care System works better for the Veterans,
families, caregivers and survivors we are charged with serving,” Harper said.
Hampton is one of the fastest growing VA regions in the country. The local VA has maintained the above average rating since VA facilities were first included in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services survey in 2023. Roughly 77 percent of VA hospitals nationwide received a four-star rating, according to the VA.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services hospital ratings are based on mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care. The data was mainly collected in 2024.
