Innovation in Education Focus Fund

WHRO Public Media reaches millions of children, families, and educators through engaging educational content delivered on WHRO KIDS, a 24/7 TV broadcast of children’s programming, on WHRO+, WHRO’s new, free streaming channel, and online to more than 286,000 students and 25,000 teachers statewide through eMediaVA.org.

Additionally, WHRO offers programs like Ms. Martha Reads, a weekly online series that features stories written by local children, and the STEM, Environmental, and Literacy Vans, brightly colored vehicles which serve as traveling classrooms to bring fun and exciting activities to challenge students.

Since its founding in 1961, WHRO has established educational programming and services as WHRO’s core mission. Owned by a collaboration of 21 local public school districts, WHRO works closely with school division leadership to develop content that meets the needs of today’s educators and learners, including a free online Environmental Science course available to all Virginia high schools.

Gifts to the Innovation in Education Focus Fund will allow the WHRO Education and Children’s Services teams to motivate and empower students and educators through innovative educational programming and dynamic community and classroom learning tools and resources.
