Interested in learning about working in skilled careers? Check out our interview with a local welder.

We spoke with Pierrette Swan, a local welder and a WHRO Work Like A Girl ambassador to hear her firsthand account of how she chose this exciting field. If you missed the interview on Facebook Live, watch the recording here.

About Pierrette

Virginia Beach native Pierrette Swan earned a degree in fine art but found her true passion in welding. She has worked in the welding/manufacturing industry for 10 years with experience in x-ray pipe welding, welder training, manning, recruiting and welding supervision. Her current role is manager of welding services for Weld America, a new division of Colonna's Shipyard that offers advanced technical welding services.

Pierrette is a graduate from The Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding and has been recognized by the Association of Manufacturing Excellence in 2018 and 2021. She says she loves the opportunities that skilled careers provide, and she enjoys talking to other women and young girls about careers in welding.
