Fans of action sports can catch the debut of new and high-flying stunts when the Nitro Circus 2.0 Tour rolls into Harbor Park on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The show features freestyle motocross, BMX, skateboarding, scooters and a variety of unconventional vehicles for athletes.
Nitro Circus is co-founded by motorsports athlete Travis Pastrana. The "2.0" branding reflects the show's updated lineup rather than a complete overhaul, said rider Kaden Stone.
The show introduces several new acts, including what organizers say will be a record-breaking stunt by freestyle motocross rider Adam Jones. Jones will attempt a 75-foot backflip through a 35-foot wall of fire.
Another new addition features Ryan Bean attempting a 40-foot dive into 3 1/2 feet of water. The tour is also bringing snowmobiles back to the show, with Cody Matechuk performing backflips off a ramp.
Beyond the stunts, audiences can expect Nitro Circus' trademark "contraptions," everyday objects turned into airborne vehicles. This year's lineup includes a flying couch, kayaks and minibuses.
"There are going to be fireworks going off, loud noises and a whole bunch of crazy stuff going on," Stone said. "It's going to be amazing."
While the show is built around extreme sports, the performers emphasized that it is designed for all ages.
"That's the big thing that Nitro has always been: It's a family show," Christian Arehart said. "We grew up watching it as kids, and now we get to be in a position as riders."
The Norfolk stop marks one of several stadium performances. The riders say they are looking forward to performing at Harbor Park because its layout offers clear views from nearly every seat.
"We've done arenas before, but this is actually going to be a really cool setup," Arehart said. "Because we have so much room, no matter where you're sitting, you'll be able to see everything. It's going to be a unique experience."
