The Southeastern Transgender Resource Center, Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia (TAP VA) and LGBT Life Center are hosting Hampton Roads’ Trans Day of Visibility on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will be at the Southeastern Transgender Resource Center, 2418 Granby St. in Norfolk and includes music, free health screenings and community resource vendors.
This year’s theme, “Trans Voices: Then, Now, and Forever,” honors the history and resilience of transgender and gender-expansive people in the Hampton Roads area.
The annual International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is observed on March 31 and raises awareness of the discrimination and barriers many transgender and gender-expansive people encounter.
“Trans Day of Visibility is about more than being seen,” said Abby H. of TAP VA in a news release. “It’s about honoring the generations who came before us, uplifting those leading now, and ensuring future trans youth grow up knowing they belong.”
The event is free and open to the public. Visit lgbtlifecenter.org for more information.
