'Stick Fly' was written by award-winning playwright Lydia Diamond and is a study in wealth, privilege and family.

Little Theatre of Virginia Beach, or LTVB, opens its production of "Stick Fly" on Friday.

The dramatic comedy by playwright Lydia R. Diamond is set at a vacation home on Martha’s Vineyard and centers on the affluent LeVay family as they gather for a weekend.

Secrets are uncovered, assumptions are challenged and the family members must confront who they are — and who they want to be.

The play debuted on Broadway in 2011 and has been praised for its rich characters, incisive dialogue and portrayal of love, privilege and family bonds.

“Stick Fly is smart, heartfelt, and incredibly relevant,” said ArLynn Parker, director of the production, in a news release. “It balances laugh-out-loud moments with deeply moving revelations, giving audiences a story that feels both intimate and universal.”

Performances run from Jan. 16 to Feb. 8. Tickets start at $25 for adults; discounts are available. Visit ltvb.com for tickets and more information.
