The Virginia Arts Festival is marking the holiday season with the Grammy-nominated British vocal ensemble VOCES8.
The concerts will take place in Norfolk, Williamsburg and Richmond in December.
VOCES8 consists of eight singers and is known for its a cappella harmonies; its repertoire spans centuries and its performances span the globe. The in-demand group has been hailed by critics, including the United Kingdom's Gramophone magazine and The Independent. The Gramophone describes VOCES8's vocal musings as having “impeccable quality of tone and balance” and “meticulous timing and tuning.”
They lent their sound to a variety of music genres and have shared the stage with legends such as Paul Simon as well as orchestras around the world.
Local shows will be held in historic churches.
“This is one of the most exalting, moving, and glorious sounds I’ve ever experienced,” said Rob Cross, the art festival's Perry artistic director, in a news release.
“Each of the churches where we will present these holiday performances adds architectural beauty and rich history to these celebratory performances.”
