This Wednesday at 9:00pm on WHRO-FM, host Raymond Jones welcomes Symphonicity maestro Daniel W. Boothe on “A Local Touch.” As he enters his tenth season themed “The Long Road: Music in Search of Peace,” Boothe highlights Symphonicity’s first concert on October 4th in Virginia Beach, featuring pianist, harpist and also composer Chaerin Kim.
This concert showcases the full power of a symphony orchestra, launching Symphonicity’s new season with triumph, romance and courage. The interview is followed by Boothe’s performance with the orchestra of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2. From there we turn to the US Air Force Heritage of America Band in the “Van Gogh Portraits” by American composer Aldo Forte. Our “Heifetz on the Air” segment from Staunton, entitled “Nordic Sounds,” features three composers from northern Europe: Finnish Jean Sibelius and Norwegians Edvard Grieg and Johan Halverson. Their works are performed by promising Heifetz students, past and present. We close the three-hour program with Virginia’s own superstar cellist Zuill Bailey and the North Carolina Symphony in Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante.
