Join Raymond Jones this Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. for “A Local Touch – Music with a Virginia Connection.” This week's program features an exclusive talk with Maestro Jorge Parodi regarding Opera in Williamsburg’s upcoming production of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”. Serving as the company's longtime Music Director, Parodi conducts a fully staged, world-class professional cast for three performances at the intimate Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg over Memorial Day weekend.
Following that, we’ll have Beethoven’s iconic Fifth Symphony, with Daniel W. Boothe leading the Symphonicity orchestra. We’ll also hear the Wind Quintet No. 1, by American composer and longtime Professor of Music at Hampton University Dr. Harvey Stokes, performed by the Hampton Wind Quintet. It’s still time to celebrate spring with “Strings for Spring” from Staunton’s “Heifetz on the Air” series. Then, we’ll hear the emotional Violin Concerto No. 1 from Shostakovich performed by Virginia-born virtuoso and Grammy-winning violinist Hilary Hahn. We’ll also feature Four Pieces for Organ by Augustus Kropfreiter played by the Hot Air Duo—featuring flutist J. Bryan Dyker (who studied at Virginia Commonwealth University and played with the Richmond Symphony) alongside organist George Bozeman. Finally, we will enjoy an exceptional local-interest recording of “The Swan” by French composer Camille Saint-Saens, featuring Grammy-winning cellist Zuill Bailey together with conductor David Wiley and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra.
