Join Raymond Jones this Wednesday at 9 p.m. on WHRO-FM for “A Local Touch – Music with a Virginia Connection,” celebrating music made and performed across the Commonwealth.
With the Virginia International Tattoo taking place this week at the Norfolk Scope Arena, and with Raymond Jones serving as announcer, the program sets the stage with a lively John Philip Sousa medley from a past Tattoo, conducted by Robert Szabo.
From there, we turn to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in A “Turkish,” featuring Virginia Symphony concertmaster Grace Park as soloist, joined by the Prague Philharmonia under Emmanuel Villaume.
The Virginia Symphony Orchestra remains in the spotlight as music director Eric Jacobsen leads his other ensemble, “The Knights,” in Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8.
From Staunton, we’re having our popular “Heifetz on Air” episode, this time devoted to the Schumans, both Robert and Clara, offering an hour-long exploration into their contrasting emotional worlds and creative voices.
We also hear the wind ensemble of George Mason University in Robert W. Smith’s “The Divine Comedy,” alongside choral music from Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Richmond, with works by Stanford and Vaughan Williams.
Tune in to WHRO-FM 90.3 or listen online for an evening that highlights soloists, ensembles, performances, and composers, all connected to Virginia.
