Out of the Box Album of the Week--Tedeschi Trucks Band--Future Soul

Don’t let the AI generated, comic book inspired album cover of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s new one, “Future Soul” fool you, the 12 piece band’s signature blend of blues, rock, soul and Americana is still intact and, if anything, much more focused and powerful.

The new album is the follow-up to the highly conceptual, four disc “I Am The Moon” project. Working with new producer Mike Elizondo, who has worked with roots rockers, singer-songwriters and even hip hop artists, the band’s improvisations have been whittled down to an album of songs all under five minutes long but with plenty of room to expand on in concert.

Susan Tedeschi’s smoky vocals and Derek Trucks’ southern fried guitars licks are the main draw here but one of the highlights is Mike Mattison’s soulful delivery on one of the funkiest songs on the album.

“Future Soul,” as the title suggests, is the continued evolution and reinvention of the backroads, southern roots, folk and rock vibe Tedeschi Trucks Band has been practicing for 15 years now and with any luck, long into the future.
