The History of Urban Line Dance on Another View

According to " A Soul Line Dance Journey with J&J Soulful Steps" urban or soul line dancing is described as choreographed repeated sequences of steps in w which a group of people dance in one or more lines in the same direction, executing steps at the same time, to music based in rhythm and blues. There's so much more to this form of dance that happens at every black celebration event from cookouts to birthday parties and beyond. Another View host Barbara Hamm Lee welcomed world traveler and line dancer Linda Hardy, Evelyn Wall, creator of the Suffolk Sophisticated Steppers, Choreographer Mark Wall, who etaches at Brinkhouse Boxing and Fitness and also manages the Tidewater Area Line Dance Youtube Channel, and Lisa Godley- Another View's Producer who is an avid Line Dancer. Also, a tribute to the late Reverend Jesse Jackson who made several trips to Hampton Roads over the years. This and all Another View Programs can be heard on demand on the show's program page.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
