This Saturday at 1 p.m., WHRO-FM invites you to discover one of Tchaikovsky’s most tender and radiant operas: “Iolanta,” presented as part of the WFMT Opera Series.
Broadcast from the prestigious Vienna State Opera, this performance brings to life the story of Iolanta, the sheltered, blind daughter of King René. Internationally acclaimed soprano Sonya Yoncheva takes on the title role in this late Romantic jewel. Opposite her, Dmytro Popov shines as Count Vaudémont, whose unexpected arrival sparks Iolanta’s awakening to love, truth, and the possibility of sight.
Ivo Stanchev performs King René, Boris Pinkhasovich is Duke Robert, and Attila Mokus performs the physician Ibn-Hakia, all supported by the Vienna State Opera Chorus. On the podium, distinguished conductor Tugan Sokhiev draws out Tchaikovsky’s luminous orchestral color.
Join us this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, and also online, for Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta,” a moving journey of hope, transformation, and the healing power of love.
