Enjoy three hours of the latest classical releases this Saturday evening at 8:00 on WHRO-FM with “This Just In.”

This week, host Raymond Jones opens the program with Bach’s Partita No. 3, performed by pianist Robert Levin and released on the French label Le Palais des Degustateurs.

Next, we’ll hear Christoph Graupner’s "Trio Sonata in B minor for flute, violin, and continuo," performed by the Musicians of the Old Post Road. The piece appears on their new album “Into the Light,” the debut release from OPR Recording, a label created by the Boston-based period instrument ensemble to share their own interpretations of early music.

From there, we move to early Romantic elegance with Beethoven’s student Ferdinand Ries’s Symphony No. 1. Performed by the Tapiola Sinfonietta under Janne Nisonen, this spirited work is featured on the Ondine release “Ferdinand Ries: Symphonies Nos. 1 &2.”

Then, we turn to the master himself with Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 1 in F, performed by cellist Emanuel Gruber and pianist Arnon Erez, from the Bridge Records album “Beethoven: Music for Cello & Piano.”

We’ll continue with more cello brilliance in Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No.1, featuring John Walz with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra conducted by JoAnn Falletta.

And staying with Shostakovich, we’ll also hear his Symphony No. 1, a youthful yet powerful creation performed in concert by the London Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Gianandrea Noseda.

The program also features selections from “A Blaze of Song,” performed by the Choruses os the Cathedral of St. John in Albuquerque, NM, with organist Maxine Thévenot, a radiant celebration of sacred choral music.

Finally, we wrap up (pun intended) with Robert Kajanu’s Finnish Rhapsody No. 2, from the Chandos release “Pictures from Finland,” issued earlier this year.

It’s a lineup full of discovery, depth, and a touch of Nordic color. Lots of new releases from start to Finnish – literally. Tune in Saturday evening at 8:00 on WHRO-FM 90.3 for “This Just In,” or visit our website to listen online.
