Each Wednesday evening at 9:00 on WHRO-FM, Raymond Jones brings you “A Local Touch – Music with a Virginia Connection,” featuring performances with deep roots in our region’s musical life.
This week’s program opens with the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Butterman in Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World,” recorded live at the Williamsburg Community Chapel this past May.

Also featured are the ODU Madrigal Singers and Capriole led by Gayle Johnson in Rameau’s “Les Indes Galantes," joined by soprano Suzanne Pecks and baritone Paul Rowe. This archival gem from 1994 was recorded at Old Dominion University’s Chandler Recital Hall, and it’s well worth revisiting.
From a 2005 recoding, we’ll have Jay BeVille conducting the Williamsburg Choral Guild in Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem,” with organist Thomas Marshall, soprano Georgeann Paddock, and baritone Christopher Mooney.
Listeners will also hear “Dalí,” a musical portrait of Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí by Aldo Forte. The Aulos Wind Ensemble performs this piece under the direction of José Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana. And the night will close with “Chanson de Coulenne,” a musical portrait of a French castle by Richmond native Mary Howe.
Join us for “A Local Touch – Music with a Virginia Connection,” this Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, and also online through our Media Player or your favorite smart device.
