Out of the Box Album of the Week--Jim Bulleit--Angels and Other Magical Creatures

Jim Bulliet is living the  dream. Since retiring from being a Virginia Beach high school English teacher in 2012 he has been recreating himself as a singer-songwriter. His latest, “Angels and Other Magical Creatures” is his best yet.

Bulleit says the album’s theme evolved naturally as he began to see supernatural elements that the songs had in common. He says ” two songs about talking birds one about angels, one about an animate shadow and of course, one about koalas.  Most of the others dealt with observations about the mystery and wonder of the world around us, the magic of infatuation.”

The album is coproduced by Zach Moats of The Dharma Initiative who played on and fleshed out many of the song’s arrangements. Bulleit's sons Matt and Nick play on the album and Bobby Blackhat plays harmonica on one of the songs.

Bulleit began sharing these recordings on Out of the Box over a year ago and is already working on the follow-up album. “Angels and Other Magical Creatures” is his third album within the last five years, it’s seventeen tracks are proof of his ablility to magically re-invent himself.
