Out of the Box Album of the Week--Josh Ritter--I Believe in You My Honeydew

Josh Ritter has proved over twelve albums that he is one of America’s greatest story tellers. Songs on his new album “I Believe in You My Honeydew” show that, with imaginative turns of phrases and catchy musical hooks, substantial, complicated themes can be delivered in a meaningful and understandable way.

Ritter says about the title of the album, "I started referring to my muse as my honeydew. The songs on Honeydew are for my muse, my invisible and blinding companion of long-standing. I hope it enjoys them. I hope it experiences a bit of what it’s like to be human—lonely, scared, uncertain, joyful, righteous.”

His last two releases have been stripped back musically but on the new album it’s a combination of acoustic introspection and rollicking arrangements featuring the full blast of his touring band.

From it’s introspective opening track to it’s powerful gospel-like conclusion, “I Believe in You My Honeydew” is an album about keeping hope alive when, all round you, the world seems to be coming apart and finding stability in the simple act of believing.
