This Wednesday at 9 p.m., Raymond Jones once again spans the state for musical treasures on “A Local Touch – Music with a Virginia Connection.”

We begin with the Virginia Choral Society, under the direction of James Powers, and accompanists Michael Price and John Siderius, in a program entitled “Songs of the Land and Sea.” This concert was recorded at the First Presbyterian Hampton and Yoder Barn in Newport News.
From Langley comes the Air Force Heritage of America Band with flutist Wayne Hendrick, led by Col. Lowel Graham, in François Borne’s dazzling “Fantasie Brillante on Bizet’s Carmen.”
And then we are off to Staunton with our “Heifetz on the Air” segment entitled “Cellobration II,” a program that includes Haydn’s spirited cello concerto, lyrical sonatas by Schubert and Beethoven, and a three-cello tribute to a beloved Heifetz instructor.
We’ll also hear pianist Patricia Goodson in Josef Bohuslav Foerster’s reflective “Pages from My Diary,” before the evening concludes with the Villa-Lobos ballet “The Emperor Jones,” conducted by Shenandoah University professor Jan Wagner.
Don’t miss this rich array of Virginia-connected performances! Tune in Wednesday evening at 9 on WHRO-FM 90.3, or stream online, for “A Local Touch.”
