Out of the Box Album of the Week--Kathleen Edwards--Billionaire

Kathleen Edwards unique blend of conversational lyrics and edgy Americana is in full bloom on her sixth album, “Billionaire.” Coproducer by Jason Isbell leads her band through songs about regret and the absurdity of life which uses her trademark, self-deprecating humor to promise better times ahead.

The album’s title doesn’t refer to monetary wealth but rather, as she says “we should all want to be billionaires in life, to be rich in experience, friendship, purpose, and the pursuit of the things that bring us joy.”

Kathleen Edwards voice has always emoted with true honesty and her songs continue to draw comparisons to short story writers. Along with Isbell, she’s joined by sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer providing background vocals on a couple of songs.

This is only her second album during the last 13 years, she famously quit the music biz to run a coffee shop in Ottawa in 2012, but after an ep of cover songs earlier this year she is back in a big way. “Billionaire” has her rocking harder and more confident than ever.
