Over the past eleven years Molly Tuttle has conquered the progressive bluegrass world with her inventive guitar playing, expressive songwriting and vocal dexterity. On her new release, “So Long Little Miss Sunshine” she’s moved past those boundaries with her most daring album yet.
The pop sensibility that has always been a part of her past four albums is now front and center as she adds drums, keyboards and other electric instruments to her virtuoso guitar playing. Tuttle says “Part of me was scared to make such a big departure but I decided I wasn’t going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want.
There are some unusual covers by Icona Pop and Charli XCX included. Most of the songs are cowritten by Tuttle and her partner, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show and one song is a collaboration with Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin.
The album concludes with an autobiographical song that is about an unpredictable life that has led her to where she is today. She is obviously turning the page on her career with “So Long Little Miss Sunshine” and with it’s daring blend of rock, pop and country, following her own path and reveling in the freedom.
