Tchaikovsky’s ‘Eugene Onegin’ Airs This Saturday on WHRO-FM

This Saturday, WHRO-FM continues the WFMT Opera Series with a broadcast from the legendary Teatro alla Scala in Milan: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ‘Eugene Onegin.’ Tune in at 1 p.m. to hear this lyrical masterpiece based on the novel in verse by Alexander Pushkin.

This La Scala production stars baritone Alexey Markov in the title role of the cold and disillusioned Eugene Onegin. Soprano Aida Garifullina brings tenderness and intensity to the role of Tatiana, the young woman who writes him a heartfelt letter only to be rejected. Tenor Dmitry Korchak is the idealistic poet Lensky, whose fate is sealed by a duel. The distinguished cast also includes Elmina Hasan as Olga, Alisa Kolosova as Larina, and Dmitry Ulyanov as the dignified Prince Gremin. Maestro Timur Zangiev leads the La Scala Chorus and Orchestra.

Don’t miss this emotionally rich and musically radiant production this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, and also online through our Media Player, and experience “Eugene Onegin” from one of the world’s most celebrated opera houses.
