Tune in for late night classic and progressive Bluegrass when the Best of Pickin presents two legendary bands. Leftover Salmon formed in Colorado in 1989 and helped redefine the genre with a unique blend that includes rock, country, bluegrass, and zydeco music. They continue to record and tour. The Bluegrass album band formed in 1980 after Tony Rice went into the studio to record a new album. A group of musicians- including JD Crowe, Bobby Hicks, Todd Phillips, and Doyle Lawson went into the studio to be a part of the project. Record executives were so impressed and blown-away with the tight sessions that emerged, they decided to build a permanent band around the group and record future albums. The Bluegrass Album Band was a dedicated group to the traditional sound of Bluegrass. A full retrospective on the Bluegrass Album Band will air on Sunday's Pickin on WHRV at 7:00PM and you can hear a sample of their music on The Best of Pickin, where we feature the new sounds of the genre combined with the artists who helped launch Americana music. Tune in and hear the blend for yourself. Friday night at 10 on WHRV.
