Out of the Box Album of the Week--Taj Mahal and Keb Mo--Room on the Porch

“Room on the Porch” is a second collaboration from acoustic blues icons Taj Mahal and Keb Mo. Their first album together won a Grammy award for contemporary blues album of the year and the follow-up is another joyous celebration of how their music has dovetailed over the years.

There is a load of outside songwriters and session players working with them from Colin Linden, Wendy Moten, Billy Branch, Jontavious Willis, John Oates and even their own sons are featured. The focus however is always on Mahal and Mo exchanging vocals and fingerpicking acoustic guitars.

A good-timey vibe with warm and inviting songs are epitomized in the title cut. Taj Mahal is 82 and Keb Mo is 73 and have always been known for big hearted songs that feel traditional and contemporary at the same time.

For those that understand that The Blues is the type of music designed to make you feel better, “Room on the Porch” revels in positivity and is the perfect antidote for anyone suffering from stress brought on by current events. The inclusiveness of the album reflects the deep tradition these two have built their whole careers.
