New Music Releases on The Best of Pickin

There's plenty of new music on this week's Best of Pickin. Tune in for music from mandolin extraordinaire Ashleigh Graham. Also, new releases from Danny Paisley, The band Route 3, and Steve Lane and Richard Bennett. Also, several tracks from the new album featuring live performances from the long-running NPR "Mountain Stage" Program. We'll hear music from Jason Isbell, Tim O Brien, and Alison Krauss. And, songs from the Asheville, North Carolina based Holler Choir, as well as classic Bluegrass from Reno and Smiley and their final release from 1971 " Together Again." The famed duo had not performed together for several years and reunited for a final album. Sadly, Red Smiley would pass away a short time later. It's classic and progressive Bluegrass on The Best of Pickin. Friday night at 10 on WHRV. Tune in!

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
