New Classical Gems Unveiled on 'This Just In'

Prepare for another captivating evening of musical discoveries this Saturday at 8:00 PM on WHRO-FM on This Just In. Raymond Jones has curated three hours of new classical releases, featuring a diverse array of compositions that promise to intrigue and delight.

Among the highlights, Apollo’s Fire takes center stage once again, presenting the “Mystery Sonatas” by Biber; the Emerson Quartet returns to the program as well with Beethoven’s “String Quartet No. 10”, showcasing the masterful interplay of voices in this chamber music gem.

Listeners will also experience the elegance of Couperin's harpsichord music, offering a glimpse into the Baroque period; and JoAnn Falletta leading a stirring rendition of Lukas Foss’s “Renaissance Concerto”, featuring flutist Amy Porter.

The program continues with Elgar’s timeless “Enigma Variations,” performed with grace and grandeur by Sir Mark Elder and the Halle Orchestra. Closing the evening, William Grant Still’s “Seven Traceries for Piano” invites contemplation with its evocative melodies.
