From the CEO - Autumn 2025

Welcome to our fall issue! We’ve had a busy summer here at the station, and I’m excited to share some highlights of things coming up as we finish out the rest of the year.

To us, public media means public service. We are always looking for ways we can better serve you and our local community. We have two new ways of doing just that—and I’m eager to share them with you.

First, we are expanding our Williamsburg team. Some of you may not know that we have an office in Williamsburg. We’ve had a presence there for many years, but this fall we are welcoming new staff to help us better serve residents who live in the Williamsburg area. Joining us soon will be our new Community Relations Coordinator Katherine Gillespie and our new Donor Relations Officer Casey Tyler. If you live near the Williamsburg office, stop by and say hello.

I’m also excited to announce the launch of WHRO+. This free app will allow you to stream all of the TV and Passport content that you love, along with community spotlights, educational resources, and regional content you won’t find anywhere else. We are in the process of scheduling community information sessions where we will demo the new app and walk you through the features. Check out whro.org/events to find a session near you. In the meantime, learn more about WHRO+ at whro.org/plus.

Speaking of excitement, if you missed the “We the People” event in Yorktown, you missed a spectacular day! We had the opportunity to screen Ken Burns’s highly anticipated documentary, “The American Revolution,” on the Yorktown battlefield—the very spot where some of the battles happened. Kids and families enjoyed an abundance of fun activities and vendors. And prior to the screening, we heard from producer and co-director David Schmidt, who grew up within the Historic Triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. He spent his summers working in the living history museum in Colonial Williamsburg and on the archaeological dig at Historic Jamestown. It was great to hear his thoughts about working on the film. The entire day was wonderful. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who made it such a special event.

If you missed the event, you can still catch a preview screening. There will be screenings on October 18 at the York County Library and November 13 at WHRO Studios. The film premieres on WHRO TV 15 on November 16.
