From the CEO - October 2022

This month we have a ton of exciting opportunities for you to come out and join us for fun activities. On October 1, our education staff will be at the Virginia Children's Festival at Town Point Park in Norfolk. Stop by to play games, win prizes and learn about our educational resources. Also on October 1, Out of the Box host Paul Shugrue will emcee the Neptune Festival Grand Parade in Virginia Beach. This festival is always a great time with music, vendors and a sand sculpting competition. We'll have a fun surprise located in our assigned festival spot, so stop by and say hello!

You can also see Paul, along with WFOS host Jerry Carter, at our Time Machine Radio Launch Party at Smartmouth Brewing Company in Norfolk. You'll enjoy some of the area's top cover bands, food trucks and a limited release beer created just for this event! Mark your calendars for October 15, 4-10 p.m., so you can join us.

Just a couple weeks following that event, we'll be at Smartmouth's Virginia Beach location for Bluegrass, BBQ & Brews on October 29 from 2-10 p.m. Enjoy a day of free outdoor bluegrass tunes—hosted by our own Barry Graham—along with freshly smoked BBQ and ice-cold brews. It will be a great way to spend a fall Saturday evening!

Speaking of ways to spend your evenings, we also have a great lineup of TV shows for you this month. One program that I know many of you look forward to each fall is Curate, our award-winning arts series. Season 7 of Curate will premiere on Friday, October 21, at 8:30 p.m. And you can meet members of our Curate team that weekend during the Boardwalk Art Show presented by the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. It's happening at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk on October 21-23.

You can also meet members of our Emerging Leaders Board at Downtown Norfolk's NEON Festival taking place on October 20-21 from 6-10 p.m. in the Norfolk arts district. The Emerging Leaders Board is a group of young professionals who are passionate about public media and who partner with us to serve the community. I hope you will take some time to attend one of these events and enjoy the rich arts community that we are privileged to have here in our region. Lastly, thank you to everyone who contributed during our recent membership drive. I am very grateful for each of you as you have faithfully and generously supported us through the years. Without you, none of our work would be possible!

I hope to see you around town this month!
