Relive a little history at Bacon’s Castle Tournament of the Castle Renaissance Faire on Saturday and Sunday.
The event takes place on the grounds of Bacon's Castle in Surry. The castle, which was built in 1665, is the oldest brick dwelling in North America.
The popular event includes medieval full-plate armored combat staged by the Tidewater Dogs of War, roaming entertainment acts, demonstrations by blacksmiths and other living history interpreters.
It will include other family activities, an artisan market and mead, wine and beer from Virginia producers.
People are encouraged to wear Renaissance attire.
Tickets for Saturday are sold out, but tickets for Sunday remain. The proceeds go to the restoration and operation of the castle, which is owned by the nonprofit Preservation Virginia.
Tickets are only available online and will not be sold at the gate: adults, $22; Preservation Virginia members and students ages 12-18, $15; children 12 and younger are free; discounts are available for military and people 60 and older.
