The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert Friday night at the Portsmouth Pavilion.

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra's free Friday program, Musical Mosaic, lives up to its name.

It will feature a wide range of works, including John Williams’ “Flying Theme” from "E.T.", “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Edvard Grieg’s "Peer Gynt" and songs from the musical "Oklahoma."

Virginia Opera artistic director and chief conductor, Adam Turner, will lead the concert.

The event is a collaboration between the city of Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Pavilion and VSO with the goal of bringing more arts to the city.

"We are bringing our community together while showcasing Portsmouth as a vibrant destination for arts, culture and entertainment," said Joe L. Harmon, III, a VSO board member and former Portsmouth Parks & Recreation commissioner.

"There is something truly special about experiencing the symphony right here in Portsmouth, and we want residents and visitors alike to feel that this incredible orchestra belongs to them, too.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free, but registration is required. Visit virginiasymphony.org to register and for more information.
