The Empty Bowls fundraiser movement is a global initiative that raises money for food banks and food kitchens, supporting people struggling with food insecurity.

The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is hosting an Empty Bowls fundraiser on Friday to benefit The Suffolk Christian Fellowship Food Bank.

Local artists donate ceramic bowls for each ticketholder to take home; the bowls represent people in the community living with food insecurity, a threat of going without food.

Started by Michigan art teacher John Hartom in 1990, Empty Bowls has evolved into a global movement to raise funds for food banks and soup kitchens. Arts Kitchen at the center will provide soup for the evening.

The event starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $25. Visit suffolkcenter.org for tickets and more information.
