Tune in Sunday night for traditional Bluegrass on Pickin. This week, a look at master mandolinist Mike Compton. Compton founded the Nashville Bluegrass Band. Mentored by the legendary father of Bluegrass music Bill Monroe, Compton is recognized for his interpretation of the classic mandolin style, performing as both a solo artist and with ensembles. He has collaborated with artists including John Hartford, Doc Watson, Elvis Costello, and Sting. His work was a part of the Grammy award winning Oh Brother, Where Art Thou Soundtrack, which ignited a renewed interest in traditional Bluegrass music. In 2022 he released the much applauded Rare and Fine: The Uncommon Tunes of Bill Monroe. We'll hear several tunes from the release as well as other work by Mike Compton.
