Tune in Sunday at 2:00pm on WHRO-FM, for “Feminine Fusion,” your weekly radio program celebrating the influence of women in classical music.
This week, Feminine Fusion continues its global journey with music from the vibrant East. Each of these composers and performers embraces the challenge of blending Western influences with the sonic traditions of their eastern homes – giving rise to works that are utterly unique. We’ll visit Korea, through composer Jean Ahn’s work, “Blush.”  Then, we’ll head the land of the rising sun for Japanese composer Mari Takano’s “Elegy.” Chinese composer Alice Ping Yee Ho shares her “Pictures from an Imagined Exhibition,” inspired by the paintings of Hong Kong ink master Wesley Tongson. After a performance from Indian sitarist Anoushka Shankar, we’ll return to Korea, for Unsuk Chin’s work “ParaMetaString” for string quartet and tape, performed by the Korean Esmé Quartet.
Listen to Feminine Fusion this Sunday at 2pm on WHRO-FM, and discover the fascinating Eastern influences shaping the music of these women composers and performers. You can also listen online through our Media Player or your preferred device.
