WHRO Public Media recently debuted its new Environmental Dome program at the Mary N. Smith Cultural Enrichment Center's Community STEAM Day in Accomac. The annual event features hands-on learning, interactive exhibits, exciting demonstrations, and creative activities.
The WHRO Environmental Dome is a 14-foot-tall inflatable mobile learning theater that delivers immersive learning experiences as part of WHRO’s Batten Environmental Education Initiative. Designed to support 6th- and 7th-grade Environmental Science SOLs, the program engages students in exploring real-world environmental challenges and empowers them to make positive changes in their communities.
The dome is 23 feet in diameter and can seat 30 people. The community viewed We Are Guardians and learned about human impact on the environment.

The program is aligned with Science SOLs. 6.8c, 6.9, LS.8c and LS.9. Because of the nature of the Environmental Dome, there are specific requirements for space, electricity access and scheduling.
