This Sunday at 2pm, join host Diane Jones for works and performances by women in honor of the Autumn season. There is a shift felt as we pass through the seasons, and that is reflected in this week’s episode of “Feminine Fusion” as the featured composers offer very different musical visions of autumn.
With selections from Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s “Das Jahr,” we discover a romantic piano diary, with remarkably varied movements. Although the work is now considered one of Hensel's major compositions, it remained largely inaccessible to the public for generations, as the complete cycle was only published nearly 150 years after its composition. Then we turn to Amy Beach’s light, graceful and slightly wistful “In Autumn,” that offers an autumn landscape in miniature. The program’s most modern work is Karen Amrhein’s “Autumn” from the large-scale orchestral “Symphony of Seasons,” beautiful musical tribute to the golden season.
