We open this evening with Christopher Rouse explosive virtuosity displayed in the Flute Concerto, performed by Swiss flutist Emmanuel Pahud. From there, we enter Beethoven’s peaceful countryside with his Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral,” beautifully played by the Munich Radio Orchestra. Next, we hear Respighi’s colorful orchestration of Rachmaninoff’s Five Etudes, before turning to Robert Russell Bennett’s Violin Concerto in A, featuring renowned violinist and former child prodigy Chloë Hanslip, with the Singapore Symphony. To close this program on a dreamlike note, we have the Bamberg Symphony performing the atmospheric Symphony No. 6 by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu.
