School administrators are making final schedule adjustments and last-minute hires. Teachers are preparing their classrooms. Parents are buying back-to-school sneakers, while students eye the calendar with both excited anticipation and dread as summer vacation winds down. Another school year is about to begin.
Education Matters, WHRO Public Media's ongoing series examining issues affecting today's classrooms, returns Monday, August 17, at noon with Suffolk Public Schools Superintendent Dr. John B. Gordon III, who was recently named Virginia Superintendent of the Year.
Described as "a passionate leader who brings great enthusiasm and energy to his role" and "a proven advocate for children," Dr. Gordon will discuss his path to statewide recognition, the initiatives Suffolk Public Schools has undertaken during his tenure, and his advice for parents preparing their children for a successful school year.
Education Matters will also take listeners' calls. Tune in Monday, August 17, at noon on 89.5 WHRV FM.
