The greatest love story of all time, this Saturday on ‘This Just In’

This Saturday evening at 8:00 on WHRO-FM, Raymond Jones brings you three hours of music as a storytelling art, with each composer transforming images, memories, and emotions into richly colored orchestral sound. So, tune in for “This Just In,” and let yourself be swept away by unforgettable melodies!
We open the program with music from one of the greatest ballet scores ever written, Sergei Prokofiev’s complete “Romeo and Juliet,” performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, fresh off his appearance at this year’s World Cup championship. Then, we take a more personal and introspective turn with John Williams’ quiet and reflective “Essay for Strings,” written in memory of his father and beautifully played by the Singapore Symphony. From there, we go back in time to the 15^th century with Rodion Shchedrin’s spiritual “Frescoes of Dionysius,” inspired by the Russian religious frescoes of the medieval icon painter Dionysius. We close the program on a lighter, more vibrant note with Lorenzo Palomo’s “Humoresca,” a work that combines lyrical elegance with lively Iberian rhythms, featuring violinist Alexandre Da Costa, who recently appeared at the Virginia Arts Festival.
