New Americana Releases on The Best of Pickin

Your weekend just got better with two hours of new Americana music Friday night on The Best of Pickin. We'll have selections from Jaelee Roberts, Retro 78, Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen, and Bob Miner teaming with country greats Tim McGraw and Lori McKenna. Jaelee Roberts has performed with the all-female Bluegrass group "Sister Sadie" as well as sharing a stage with country royalty like Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs. We'll hear a new single from her entitled " I'm Putting You Out of My Misery." The Trio retro 78 is out of South Carolina and have been together since 2021. They're powered by Clint Groves on lead and harmony vocals. Also, traditional tracks from Larry Sparks, the supergroup Longview, and Bill Emerson and Cliff Waldron. It's perfect late Night Americana on WHRV. Tune in and enjoy.

Barry Graham

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
