Enjoy a Baroque masterpiece this Saturday on ‘This Just In’

Tune in this Saturday evening at 8:00 on WHRO-FM for ‘This Just In,’ where Raymond Jones showcases outstanding new classical recordings.
The program starts with a masterpiece of Baroque splendor as Sir Thomas Beecham conducts Handel’s dramatic oratorio “Solomon” from a newly reissued Warner Classics recording. We then turn to the youthful lyricism of Stravinsky's “The Faun and the Shepherdess”, with JoAnn Falletta leading the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Next, organist Raymond Weidner appears on the Richmond-based Raven Records label performing his own “Biblical Sketches,” a contemplative musical meditation inspired by Scripture. From there, we explore the American Midwest with Michael Daugherty’s “American Gothic,” inspired by the iconic Grant Wood painting and featuring Virginia’s own Zuill Bailey as cello soloist with the Nashville Symphony. The show concludes with Anna Clyne’s luminous and celestial choral work “Orbits,” sung by The Sixteen and led by the internationally known Harry Christophers.
