This Saturday: Verdi’s Acclaimed Grand Opera Aida on WHRO-FM

This Saturday, prepare for a tragic journey to ancient Egypt with Verdi’s “Aida”, a grand opera renowned for its powerful choruses, ceremonial scenes, and deeply emotional duets. “Aida” weaves together a story of forbidden love, loyalty to country, and betrayal within families and nations.
Enslaved by the Egyptians, the Ethiopian princess Aida has been torn from her homeland. To the dehumanizing reality of slavery is added the agony of an impossible choice: between her beloved Radamès, an Egyptian military commander, and her loyalty to her country. Caught between love and moral duty, Aida watches her dreams of a lost paradise give way to the disintegration of her inner world, from which only death offers release.
This acclaimed production, presented by producer Daniel Goldberg, was recorded on the magnificent stage of the Paris Opera. It stars soprano Saioa Hernández as Aida, tenor Piotr Beczała as Radamès, and baritone Roman Burdenko as Amonasro. The Paris Opera Chorus and Orchestra perform under the baton of Michele Mariotti, bringing Verdi's magnificent score to life. This staging is known for its modern, stylized visual concept and strong emphasis on psychological drama.
Don’t miss “Aida,” a love story trapped inside war and empire, where Verdi balances overwhelming spectacle with some of the tenderest and most tragic music he ever wrote. Tune in to WHRO-FM 90.3, or listen online via our Media Player, this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
