Celebrating Pride on The Highway

As Pride Month comes to a close, we'll have our traditional program full of great LGBTQ+ artists and allies. Tune in for music from the Indigo Girls, Tye Herndon, Crys Mathews. Tom Goss, Narissa Bond, Tret Fure, and plenty of others. Tom Goss started his career playing the coffeehouse circuit in Washington, DC. He has released five albums and also is an actor. We'll hear music from a cd that he gave to me when he previously played Norfolk's Pridefest. Tune in for the annual Pride Program and also- make plans to stop by the WHRO tent at Saturday's PRIDEFEST in Town Point Park- we have plenty of swag to offer and if you are still into CDS- we'll have plenty for our Americana Library to give away. It's PRIDE WEEKEND- and The Acoustic Highway celebrates- Sunday night at 9 on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
