New Music on The Best of Pickin

Catch some new Americana releases on this week's The Best of Pickin with tracks from Newfound Road, Will Clark, The Grascals, Kody Norris, The Travelin McCourys, and plenty of others. Norris has just issued a cd entitled "Spirit of America" which is just in time for the upcoming celebration of America's 250 years of Independence. Norris is one of the few artists that seems able to forge the divide between traditional and progressive bluegrass music. The band has been a machine recently- releasing 8 albums since 2014 along with countless singles and some holiday tunes. Newfound Road has reformed as a band after a hiatus from working together and 25 years after first forming, have gone back into the studio to record new music. Tune in for the traditional and the new on The Best of Pickin. Friday night 10-12 on WHRV.

Barry Graham used to arrive at WHRO with a briefcase full of papers and lesson plans. For 32 years he taught US and Virginia Government in the Virginia Beach Public Schools. While teaching was always his first love, radio was a close second. While attending Old Dominion, Barry was program director at WODU, the college radio station. After graduating, he came to WHRO as an overnight announcer. Originally intending to stay on only while completing graduate school, he was soon hooked on Public Radio and today is the senior announcer on WHRV. In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations.
