Each Saturday evening at 8:00 on WHRO-FM, “This Just In” offers three hours dedicated to the newest classical releases, carefully selected by Raymond Jones to help you discover what’s worth hearing, streaming, or adding to your collection.
This Saturday, tune in for a program showcasing award-winning and critically acclaimed new recordings. To begin, Raymond Jones has for you the graceful and intimate Trio No. 2 by Saint-Saens played by the Neave Trio, whose recording received a Grammy nomination for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. Then, step into a very different world, inspired by William Randolph Hearst and Orson Welles, with Michael Daugherty’s colorful and fantastical “Once Upon a Castle” performed by organist Paul Jacobs and the Nashville Symphony. Next, enjoy the vibrant and playful Concerto for Two Violins by Sir Malcolm Arnold, a work full of energy, charm, and virtuosity, performed by British soloists Jack Liebeck and Alexander Sitkovetsky. Tenderness and nostalgia will be the evening’s final touch with the Symphony No. 9 by Gustav Mahler. The Czech Philharmonic is conducted by Semyon Bychkov, whose interpretation emphasizes the work's warmth and humanity.
Join Raymond Jones this Saturday for an evening of outstanding performances and a rich spectrum of musical emotions. Tune in to “This Just In" Saturday at 8:00 pm on WHRO-FM 90.3, or online through our Media Player.
