Each Saturday evening at 8:00 on WHRO-FM, “This Just In” brings you three hours of the latest classical releases, your weekly guide to what’s new on record and worth your attention.
This week, we’ll have the Overture to the opera-comique “Raymond” by French composer Ambroise Thomas, performed on the organ from Raven Records in Richmond. Then, let’s enjoy the Virginia Symphony under Eric Jacobsen with violinist Gil Shaham in Antonin Dvorak’s Violin Concerto in a minor on a new Canary Classics release. After that, we’ll have the 2025 choral work “I’ll Make Me a World” by John Rutter, with the composer conducting. Next, let’s go back in time with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 performed by the Czech Philharmonic. We’ll add to that a piano concerto from Stravinsky’s teacher, the Russian pianist and Romantic composer Leokadiya Kashperova, and the “Homage to Vaughan Williams” from British organist and composer Francis Jackson.
