Tune in to WHRO-FM 90.3 this Saturday at 1 p.m. for a live broadcast of Tchaikovsky’s“Eugene Onegin,” a deeply human story of love, regret, and missed chances.
Based on the novel in verse by Alexander Pushkin, the opera follows the fate of a young woman whose sincere declaration of love is rejected, only to return years later with devastating consequences. Baritone Iurii Samoilov stars in the title role as the charismatic but emotionally detached Onegin, opposite soprano Asmik Grigorian as Tatiana, whose famous letter scene remains one of the most moving moments in all of opera.
Tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac appears as Lenski, Onegin’s idealistic friend, whose fate brings the drama to its tragic turning point. The cast also includes Maria Barakova, Alexander Tsymbalyuk, and Larissa Diadkova. Conductor Timur Zangiev makes his network broadcast debut leading the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus in Tchaikovsky’s richly lyrical score.
Listen this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3 or online for this live broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera.
