Tune in to WHRO-FM 90.3 this Saturday at 1 p.m. for a bel canto gem from the Metropolitan Opera: "La Sonnambula" by Bellini.
This poignant romance stars the village girl Amina, whose sleepwalking creates misunderstandings that put her honor in question, and Elvino, Amina’s jealous fiancé. "La Sonnambula" is widely hailed for its bel canto demands, requiring exceptional vocalists for the roles of Amina and Elvino.
Soprano Nadine Sierra is in the virtuosic title role of the sleepwalking girl Amina, who wanders into a web of misunderstanding and heartache. Tenor Xabier Anduaga is Amina’s fiancé, Elvino, whose faith in her is put to the test. The cast also features bass Alexander Vinogradov as the world-wise Count Rodolfo and soprano Sydney Mancasola as Amina’s rival, Lisa. Maestro Riccardo Frizza conducted the Met Orchestra and Chorus in this acclaimed performance last October.
Don’t miss this melodic beauty that will be heard over the Robert K. Johnson Foundation-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network, this Saturday at 1 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3, and also online through our Media Player or your smart device.
