This Saturday, March 21, WHRO-FM brings you a special live broadcast of Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde,” one of the most powerful love stories in all of opera. Because the performance is longer than usual, the matinee will start at 12:00 p.m., and there will be no “From the Top” broadcast beforehand, so you can fully immerse yourself in the drama.
Soprano Lise Davidsen sings Isolde, the Irish princess caught in a passionate, impossible love, while tenor Michael Spyres is Tristan, the warrior whose loyalty and desire are torn apart by fate. Ekaterina Gubanova portrays Brangäne, Isolde’s maid, who unwittingly sets their destiny in motion with a love potion. Tomasz Konieczny is Tristan’s faithful attendant, Kurwenal, and Suffolk-born Ryan Speedo Green plays King Marke, Tristan’s uncle and Isolde’s husband.
Conducted by Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus bring every soaring note and dramatic tension to life.
Join us Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on WHRO-FM 90.3 or listen online for a truly unforgettable afternoon of music, passion, and destiny, live from the Met Opera.
