Frances Albrier: Nurse and Shipyard Welder's Enduring Service | Rebel Girls (grades 9-12)
This audio piece explores the life of Frances Albrier. Albrier dedicated her entire life to community service. During World War II, she played a pivotal role on the home front, working as the first Black female welder at the Richmond Shipyards and volunteering to assist and advocate for soldiers. Albrier’s involvement with the Red Cross and NAACP furthered her impact, fighting against racial discrimination and inequality.

GreenBeats℠ is a WHRO-produced series of animated shorts that focuses on critical environmental issues and themes.

We Sing Her Story 
These four women from around the world have fought bravely to save the environment. Our heroes are Rachel Carson from the US, Wangari Maathai from Kenya, Berta Caceres from Honduras and Vandana Shiva from India. They have planted trees, saved waters, stopped pollution and supported indigenous people. One of them even won the Nobel Peace Prize.
